How Your $1 Gift Can Make a HUGE Difference

Your $1 Gift Is Much More Than Peanuts

Your $1 Gift Is Much More Than Peanuts

As we walk down Fifth Avenue, the windows sing and shout Christmas gift ideas of the latest technology and fashion fads. We pass the Salvation Army volunteer asking for pennies, thinking that our few dollars are just peanuts and won’t make a difference.

Seeing TV commercials of bright shiny diamond rings or of cars with bright shiny bows, we begin to believe that nothing less than these gifts will put a smile on someone’s face.

But the truth is $1 CAN make a HUGE difference.

Below is a list of charities that take $1 and purchase a gift as valuable as a diamond or a car. And it’s a gift that keeps on giving.

For example, through Heifer International, your donation can give the gift of a water buffalo. These gentle giants provide families in need with milk that can transform malnourished children. Plus, families can now plant four times more crops when they can sow fields in days that once took weeks to plant by hand. It all adds up to better nutrition, and more income for struggling families to put toward clothing, medicine and education. To donate a whole or part of an animal go to WWW.HEIFER.ORG.

$1 buys two books shipped to a classroom in Africa. In many schoolrooms on the continent, 20 children share one textbook.  WWW.BOOKSFORAFRICA.ORG

$2 buys a set of drumsticks for a low-income public student learning to play the drums. WWW.LITTLEKIDSROCK.ORG

$3 buys a field trip to a museum, concert, or theatrical production for a high-risk youth. WWW.CREATNOW.ORG

$4 buys two hours of prepaid phone time for a soldier stationed overseas to call home. Started by teen siblings in 2004, Cell Phones for Soldiers has since mailed more than 1.5 million calling cards for American troops. WWW.CELLPHONESFORSOLDIERS.COM

$5 buys a one-burner kerosene stove for a family that would typically rely on an open fire. The stove is reusable and less environmentally taxing than the cutting of timber. WWW.FOODFORTHEPOOR.ORG

$6 buys measles vaccinations for 15 children in a developing country. WWW.DOCTORSWITHOUTBORDERS.ORG

$7 buys a week’s worth of food for an abandoned dog or cat at a shelter run by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. WWW.ASPCA.ORG

$8 buys a medical teaching doll to be used in educating a child about his or her cancer treatment. WWW.STJUDE.ORG

$10 buys a box of nails used to adapt a disabled veteran’s house, from Homes for Our Troops, an organization that provides full accessibility to the injured at no cost. WWW.HOMESFOROURTROOPS.ORG

$10 buys a day’s worth of fresh fruits and vegetables to feed two chimpanzees- most of which have been orphaned by poachers- at the Jane Goodall Institute’s Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center in the Republic of Congo. WWW.JANEGOODALL.ORG

$10 buys two specialized bottles for babies born with a cleft palate, who otherwise might suffer from malnutrition before receiving corrective surgery. WWW.OPERATIONSMILE.ORG

$10 buys cloth and tools so Afghan women can become self-sufficient by taking a six month tailoring course through Creating Hope International and the Afghan Institute for Learning. WWW.GLOBALGIVING.ORG

$11 buys eleven trees to be planted in Alabama communities devastated by the April 2011 tornadoes. WWW.ARBORDAY.ORG

$12 buys twenty pounds of multipurpose soap to help keep families germ-free around the world, through Oxfam. WWW.OXFAMAMERICAUNWRAPPED.COM

$14 buys two nutritious meals delivered by volunteers from Meals on Wheels to a housebound senior citizen. WWW.MOWAA.ORG

$15 buys a backpack and school supplies for one homeless or low-income urban child. WWW.CRADLESTOCRAYONS.ORG

What People Are Saying. . .
I just completed Michele’s 90-day MORE program. As Michele will remind you, if you decide to study with her, things don’t happen to us; they happen for us. Michele happened for me just when I needed what she is committed to teaching. Commitment is the key word because she is always thinking of what she can do to help others live happy, successful lives filled with joy. She takes care to really understand what each of her students needs and instinctively suggests just the right message, yoga exercise, meditation, food, experience, etc., that will resonate with them to help them courageously live the life they want. Michele is a gift you deserve to give yourself when you’re finally ready to live your best, authentic life.

...I have suffered from emotional eating for 6 years, during which I have juggled and switched through different therapists and treatment options. I continued to feel "stuck" as the approaches focused on the past and why I acquired my disease. ...Michele's plan of remaining present- right here, right now- in addition to helping me choose love for myself, has allowed me to grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually... Michele is a true gift from God.

The benefits have been significant. My reason for doing this yoga is to improve and maintain good health. Each morning class provides me with the motivation to get up and improve my physical and mental strength. I also think one of the greatest things about Michele’s 365 Yoga Course is I can join a class any day of the week, drop in at any time during the class and leave at a time that works for me and my schedule, from anywhere I am.
