Important Information about Dehydration (& a Summer Job)

Fact: most of us are dehydrated all day, especially during the summer.  Any dip in hydration causes physical and mental fatigue.

Instead of reaching for sugary drinks that dehydrate you more, reach for watermelon.
Another fact: watermelon is 90-93% water.  Plus it contains l-citrulline which is an amino acid that improves blood flow which translates into better heart health.

There’s no better time to eat watermelon in August since it’s Watermelon Month (who could have guessed that watermelon had its own month)?!

Here’s the ultimate refresher on a hot day.

Watermelon Salad with Mint and Lime by Matt Neal


  • 8 cups seedless watermelon chunks (1 inch), from a 6-pound melon
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves, torn
  • Salt


  1. In a large bowl, toss the watermelon with the lime juice and cayenne. Fold in the mint leaves, season with salt and serve.
  2. For a grown-up version, add a splash of rum.
